The Bhairahawa-Sunauli border point witnessed no vehicular movement after the Indian side continued its trade embargo on Tuesday as well.The Indian customs officials at Sunauli charged Rs 500 from the Nepali vehicle owners who queued up to reach Nautanwa in India to refuel their vehicles as the Nepal is reeling through acute fuel shortage due to India’s ‘undeclared’ blockade.Also the Indian police have been charging upto Rs 1,000 from Nepali motorcyclists who filled their tanks from India. Earlier, the Nepali people could refuel from Indian petrol pumps without having to pay any fees at custom office.
Amidst such circumstance, a team of US diplomatic mission arrived at Bhairahawa today to inspect and discuss the effects seen in the trade and industry sectors in Nepal.The team comprised of US embassy’s Regional Security Officer Steven Schaper, political and economic deputy chief Stephanie Reed, among five other team members. The team held deliberations with Siddhartanagar Chamber of Commerce and Industry, top security officials, Bhairahawa Customs officer and also held onsite inspection at the border area.
