A Nepal police constable, who deserted his service taking along with him two guns, was arrested in Sundhara on Sunday.Chhota Lal Thakur, 26, of Ahabi-8 Bara was arrested from a guest house in Sundhara along two pistols including a Chinese pistol and seven round of bullets.
Thakur sustained bullet injuries in his leg whatpolice explained was in retaliatory action after he pulled out a weapon during the police raid. According to the Metropolitan Police Crime Division, Thakur was rushed to Bir Hospital and is undergoing treatment.
Thakur had taken along with him a Self-Loading Rifle and a pistol while deserting the police service. In his statement to police, Thakur claimed that he had already sold the SLR to Sunil Jaiswal, a leader of Tarai outfit and former APF constable. Jaiswal was arrested two years ago and is doing time in jail. “Thakur was also involved in numerous abduction and extortion cases in Nepal and India,” said Senior Superintendent of Police Sarbendra Khanal, chief of Crime Division.Thakur, who has been active in smuggling weapons to and from Nepal and India, was also involved in a murder in Motihari, India, police said.Along with Thakur, Raj Kumar Patel, 36, of Rautahat has also been arrested.Police are looking for Patel’s possible involvement in any sort of crimes.
