Itahari hectic after locals torch stage installation for UDMF amassing

Top leaders of the UDMF including Upendra Yadav, Mahanta Thakur and Rajendra Mahato, were scheduled to address the assembly on Friday.Students affilated to student unions of NC, CPN (UML), UCPN (Maoist) and RPP-N vandalised and set the stage on fire as they chanted slogans against India, alleging that the Madhesi agitation was backed by the Indian establishment.

After the UDMF informed its local leaders on Thursday and cadres in Itahari about the program, student leaders affiliated to the NC, UML, UCPN (M) issued a press statement warning against organizing the progrm. However, the UDMF cadres had proceeded with the preparation for the mass gathering.

Security has been heightened in the city to prevent any untoward event following the incident. Security personnel have formed a security barricade, restricting the UDMF cadres and students to two opposing sides, preventing them from clashing.
