The Biggest Dam in the World-Three Gorges Dam

Located in Yiling District of China the Three Gorges Dam is a hydroelectric dam that spans the Yangtze River. In terms of installed capacity, the dam is the world’s largest power station. In terms of annual energy generation, the dam is also the largest operating hydroelectric facility.
But the three Gorges Dam has been bringing many controversial topics to the international forefront. The dam increases China’s global status as it connects to multiple countries through its building. The dam also shows the relation between country and citizens as it brings concerns up of resettlement and loss of culture.
There as many threats too as the dam building can cause many environmental issues such as erosion, landslides, and pollution.

Previously the dam was working to take the edge off the fierce flood. It also worked to reduce its impact on the river’s lower reaches by storing at least 26,000 cubic meters of flood water every second, the Yangtze River flood control and drought relief. The water flow from the dam was previously measured to be 43,000 cubic meters per second.
And a documentary has been aired on National Geographic channel. The documentary shows all the environmental problem that is being caused by the dam. Similarly it shows how the people living near the dam will be affected in the near future. The documentary has been uploaded on YouTube and is available on the channel called Mega factories.
